Devils Tower prescribed burn ignites wildfire

Fire officials got more than they bargained for Wednesday afternoon when a prescribed burn at Devils Tower National Monument ignited a wildfire.
The original, 300-acre planned fire burned Tuesday and was being mopped up ahead of schedule on Wednesday. It succumbed to late-afternoon high winds, though, touching off a spot fire outside of the prescribed burn area, according to a release from Devils Tower National Monument officials.
“So, relatively quickly, it developed into something else,” said Reed Robinson, superintendent of the monument. “It required more resources than we had just to manage the mop up of the original fire.”VIEW ORIGINAL ARTICLE
