The public is invited to review and comment on a draft management plan on several public wilderness and scenic river areas in Owyhee County.

The new plan will be used to address the six wilderness areas and 16 wild and scenic river segments for the next 10 years, according to a news release from the U.S. Bureau of Land Management.

The BLM uses one plan to manage both areas due to their similarity in natural and cultural resources and comparable management issues.

Wilderness and wild and scenic river segments were created after a grassroots effort called the Owyhee Initiative. A group of local ranchers, county representatives, environmental and conservation groups, outfitters, Shoshone Paiute Tribe members and several others worked to address public land issues in southwestern Idaho.
