Purpose

The foundation's mission is to support public charities located in the four counties of San Francisco, Marin, Sonoma and San Mateo.

Funding Interests

The Bothin Foundation supports organizations providing direct services to low-income, at-risk children, youth and families, the elderly and disabled. Some grants may also be made to environmental agencies, arts organizations which serve youth predominately, and community-based capital campaigns.

  • Scholarships
  • Religious Organizations
  • Educational Institutions (other than those which serve the learning disabled)

Application Process

Proposals should be for a specific amount and must include the following:

All must be submitted by mail

  • A cover letter on organizational letterhead that briefly summarizes the request for funding and listing the other pieces of the proposal. 
  • A concise description of the organization including history, mission and type(s) of programs and/or services provided. 
  • A concise description of the project (if applicable) including purpose, goals/objectives, and timeline. 
  • A financial statement showing actual revenue and expenses for the agency's most recently completed fiscal year as well as a current year budget. 
  • An organizational budget, detailing all proposed expenditures, and projected sources of funding. 
  • A project budget (if applicable) detailing all proposed expenditures, and projected sources of funding. 
  • A list of the Board of Directors, with affiliations. 
  • A copy of the agency's IRS 501(c)(3) tax-exempt determination letter. 
  • Deadlines

    The Foundation will accept proposals for the summer 2008 meeting February 25 through March 18. Complete proposals must be received in the Bothin offices no later than 12pm of the due date. Please consult this web site or contact staff for more information.

    Comments

    To ensure a broad spectrum of organizations, the Board will not consider additional grants until three full years have elapsed.

    Grant 1

    Grantee: Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy, CA
    Amount: $25000
    Purpose: For the purchase of video and audio equipment for the Computer Media Lab at the Crissy Field Center to provide hands-on environmental education.

    Grant 2

    Grantee: Marin Agricultural Land Trust, CA.
    Amount: $20000
    Purpose:

    Toward the cost of certain improvements to MALT's new headquarters building.


    Grant 3

    Grantee: Marin Conservation Corps
    Amount: $22400
    Purpose:

    For new roofs for the headquarters of the organization providing employment and environmental education for youth in Marin.
