The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service), propose to designate critical habitat for polar bear (Ursus maritimus) populations in the United States under the Endangered Species Act of 1973, as amended (Act). In total, approximately 519,403 square kilometers (km2) (200,541 square miles (mi2)) fall within the boundaries of the proposed critical habitat designation. The proposed critical habitat is located in Alaska and adjacent territorial and U.S. waters. DATES: Comments receivee on or before December 28, 2009 will be considered.
